Snow Day Information Snow Days

When I have the opportunity to speak with the students the question asked most often is, “Are you going to give us a lot of snow days?”    I know the students love snow days, but I know the change in schedule impacts parents because they need to make alternative plans for their children that day.  My number one concern is the safety of the children.  The current weather, temperature and future weather are all factors in making a decision to hold school, delay or cancel.

Computer Insurance for LUHS and LUMS Students Insurance

At Liberty Union-Thurston High and Middle Schools, your child has the wonderful opportunity to be able to use a Chromebook to enhance and accelerate their learning.  LUHS and LUMS are considered 1-to-1 with Chromebooks, meaning that each student is assigned their own Chromebook to use and carry with them from class to class.  Since your child is given the responsibility of carrying the same Chromebook each day, he/she is responsible for any damages that occur with their assigned Chromebook.  Since some damages can be costly, we wanted to offer the option of insurance to cover the damages that may occur to your child’s assigned device.  Below is the information about insurance offered by the Worth Ave. Group.  You can  complete and mail-in the below form to the Worth Ave. Group, or visit the libertyunion.org website, under the “Parents and Students” tab to find the Student Computer Insurance Portal to purchase insurance online.

Student Vaccinations vaccine

The Ohio Department of Education has mandated that for the 2016-2017 school year all Senior students shall have received two (2) doses of the meningococcal vaccine (MCV4) before being allowed to attend school.  This vaccine protects against meningitis, a disease which causes inflammation (swelling) of the spinal cord and/or brain which can cause complications or be fatal.

-The recommended minimum interval between dose one (1) and dose two (2) is eight (8) weeks.

-If the first dose was administered on or after the student's 16th birthday, a second dose is NOT required.

-If a pupil is in 12th grade and is 15 years of age or younger, only one dose is required.

-The school must receive proper documentation of vaccination by the first day of the school year.

If a student has not received the proper vaccination by the 14th day of school, the student will be excluded from school starting on the 15th day and every day thereafter until the school receives proper documentation that the vaccination has been administered.
