Liberty Union Middle School Principal

LUMS
Dear LUMS Students and Parents,

Welcome to Liberty Union Middle school as we start the 2023 -2024 school year. We are very excited to start this school year with students attending each day of the week and teachers having the ability to instruct their students in a normal classroom setting. Our building theme for this year is “ All In ”. Our goal is to have students excited to attend our school and want to do their best in the classrooms and extra-curricular events. We will be using the Liberty Union –Thurston web page under Middle School to share activities and events to help parents keep in touch with the school. The teacher’s websites and google classroom are designed to help students and parents with classroom assignments. Each student will be assigned a chrome book to be used throughout the school day to research information and to complete class assignments. The teachers will be using google classroom which allows the student to work on their assignments at home using the assigned chrome book.

Academics and student achievement is the main focus of the staff in this middle school. We provide students a learning environment with the help of technology and learning centers to allow each individual to achieve success. As students achieve success we have an academic wall of fame for all students who make honor roll status.

Our staff believes in concentrating on the positive characteristics of a student and not the negative. We offer incentives to students who complete their work, follow school guidelines and achieve academic success. The incentives are in the form of daily lunch treats, weekly food gift cards, academic breakfast and pizza rewards and end of the field trips. The funding of this incentive program has been from the generosity of parents and friends who shop at Kroger’s. Our Middle School web page provides information on how to use your Kroger’s grocery shopping card to help our students.

Extra-curricular activities allow students to develop leadership and team building skills. We offer a variety of after school activities such as student council, spelling bee, football, theater, cheerleading, boy’s and girl’s basketball, wrestling, volleyball, track and cross country. We also have a music department that offers chorus and band for students to develop their musical talents.

I encourage you to take an active part in the success of your student here at Liberty Union Middle School. We offer activities for you to visit the school and be a part of the learning experience. We have parent conferences scheduled through the school year so you can visit your student’s teachers. The school also uses Progress Book for teachers to record grades which parents can view as needed to monitor student’s success.

To communicate with a staff member or myself you can email by locating the email address on the web site or call the school at 862-4126. Our goal is to keep parents informed and we like to hear from you so that we can provide your child with the best education.
