Letter from LU-T Board of Education President, Dr. John Walter

Dear Liberty Union-Thurston Family,

Sorry that I may be a bit late in expressing this but as you are all aware, this has not been a typical week. I want to thank each and every one of you for the way that you have met the challenge this current pandemic has created. I know myself and the rest of the Board of Education are grateful and proud of the way that our district family has responded.

To the district administrators, principals and district office personnel: You can never know how appreciative we are by how you have coordinated responses to all the tasks that had to be addressed in an insane time frame. We get regular updates about where we stand with student activities and district issues. The letter that Mr. Gallatin sent out to the seniors was so touching because it addressed the disappointment that these students are experiencing while at the same time challenging them to make the best of the situation. From the elementary up to the high school, everyone should be proud of these senior students. They have been gracious and understanding and can serve as an example to all of us.

To the faculty and teaching support staff: We are so impressed by your ability to transition from face to face instruction to the challenges of distance learning essentially overnight. I have heard repeated praise about how seamless the distribution of the Chrome books and lesson plans have been.

To the supervisors and district support staff: It is amazing that the kitchen staff has made the transition from a "dine in" facility to take out all the while having to meet USDA lunch regulations. I have heard that our bus drivers have been stepping up to lend a hand. Our maintenance and custodial staff are going to be completely cleaning and disinfecting the district buildings and will continue working on improvement projects.

It is my honor and privilege to serve as a Liberty Union-Thurston School Board Member because I know the quality of our people. I know that you love our kids and take it home with you each night. I know how difficult the events of the past week have been and we are so proud of the manner in which every one of our people has answered the call. We have our challenges and things are not always smooth but we are all a community that bands together and gets the job done. We are a pride of lions of which I am so proud to be associated.

On behalf of the entire Board of Education, our most sincere thank you to each of you.

Keep the faith. Keep safe. Keep up the outstanding work!

Go Lions!
