Dear Liberty Union-Thurston Family,

I wanted to thank each of you again for your ongoing dedication and hard work through this difficult time. All of your efforts serve as an example to our community of the quality that we have at Liberty Union-Thurston Schools.

Everyone has continued to rise to the challenges with which we are presented. Unfortunately, one of them being that this is going to extend for longer than we had hoped.

The district administration team is now working through some options for the remainder of the academic year. We are going to continue to pursue options to celebrate our student accomplishments.

Building principals and teachers are regularly meeting to discuss the distance learning process and to tweak it as necessary to meet the academic needs of the students. We are going to continue to help our students reach their potential.

The kitchen and transportation staff have streamlined the meal process to limit the time of interaction which helps to reduce the potential for spread of the virus. Besides just distributing food, we have been able to help dispense some of our available cleaning supplies to those who were having difficulty obtaining them. We are going to continue to promote the health and well-being our community.

The maintenance and custodial staff have been able to assist other municipal and county agencies with decontamination of service vehicles. We are going to continue to be an example of what can occur with a spirit of cooperation.

I remain so proud that in this district we not only take care of neighbors but have found ways in which we can grow the size of our neighborhood. Something which I hope would please Mr. Rogers.

Many of you know that I have been heavily involved in Scouting. I recently encouraged my scouts to think about what each of them can do to be of service. I told them that now is a time for leadership and that leadership comes in varying forms. I asked them to be cheerful because now is the time when a big smile is even more important. I would add to that a kind word, a phone call or a helping hand may be that small measure that proves so helpful to someone else.

I continue to pray for health for all of you and your families. It remains my deep honor to serve as a Liberty Union-Thurston School Board Member and again on behalf of the entire Board of Education, our ongoing thank you to each of you.

As I closed my last message: Keep the faith. Keep safe. Keep up the outstanding work!

Please contact me by email at [email protected] if you would like to share your thoughts and recommendations.

Go Lions!
