CONTROLLED BURN NEW
Completely unrelated to the current COVID-19
situation, the Liberty Union-Thurston Local School District will be having a
controlled burn of an area behind the middle school building near the Land Lab
entrance. The school district is working in conjunction with the Basil
Joint Fire District, the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency, and the Ohio
Department of Natural Resources. The
school district has partnered with a Fish and Wildlife Biologist from the U.S.
Fish and Wildlife Service. Upon his recommendation, some of the prairie
grasses behind the middle school need a fresh start and a controlled burn is an
effective solution.
This controlled burn, under supervision of Basil Joint Fire
District, will occur on FRIDAY, APRIL 3rd. The planned time of the burn
is 4:00 P.M. However, that time may need to be adjusted slightly depending on
wind conditions. Please do not be alarmed if you see fire trucks, smoke,
or fire near the middle school on Friday anytime in the afternoon.
