High School Student Vaccine Update 2016-2017

The Ohio Department of Education has mandated that for the 2016-2017 school year all Senior students shall have received two (2) Ydoses of the meningococcal vaccine (MCV4) before being allowed to attend school. This vaccine protects against meningitis, a disease which causes inflammation (swelling) of the spinal cord and/or brain which can cause complications or be fatal.

  • The recommended minimum interval between dose one (1) and dose two (2) is eight (8) weeks.
  • If the first dose was administered on or after the student's 16th birthday, a second dose is NOT required.
  • If a pupil is in 12th grade and is 15 years of age or younger, only one dose is required.
  • The school must receive proper documentation of vaccination by the first day of the school year.

If a student has not received the proper vaccination by the 14th day of school, the student will be excluded from school starting on the 15th day and every day thereafter until the school receives proper documentation that the vaccination has been administered.

Middle School Student Vaccine Update 2016-2017

The Ohio Department of Education requires that all students entering the 7th grade be vaccinated against tetanus, pertussis, and diphtheria by receiving a dose of the Tdap vaccination before being allowed to return to school for the 2016-2017 school year.

In addition, beginning the 2016-2017 school year, all student entering the 7th grade will also be required to be vaccinated against meningitis by receiving a dose of the meningococcal (serogroup A, C, W, and Y also known as MCV4). Meningitis is a disease which causes inflammation (swelling) of the spinal cord and/or brain and can cause serious complications or be fatal.

  • Please check your child's medical records. Some children may have already received this vaccination.
  • After receiving these vaccinations, please request a copy of the record and send in or bring in a copy to the school office so we can place it in the child's permanent record.
  • The school must receive proper documentation of vaccination by the first day of the school year.

If a student has not received the proper vaccination by the 14th day of school, the student will be excluded from school starting on the 15th day and every day thereafter until the school receives proper documentation that the vaccination has been administered.
