Update March 18th

March 18, 2020

To All Connected to Liberty Union-Thurston Schools,

The community is pulling together during this unprecedented time and it is amazing!  Thank you for all of the support and understanding over the past week.

We are preparing to completely close our school district facilities for an extended time to ensure that our deep cleaning procedures are most effective.  The district is using an EPA and FDA approved antimicrobial spray on all surfaces. This deep clean is an on-going process at all buildings in the district.  By the end of Wednesday, March 18, all group designated pick up times for Chromebooks and personal items will be complete.  Below is a summary of answers to questions at this point in time.

Updated: March 18, 2020 at 5:45 P.M.

CHROMEBOOK & PERSONAL ITEM COLLECTION NEW

  • If they haven’t already, ALL students should collect any personal items as well as their school assigned Chromebooks BEFORE Friday, March 20th at 12:00 noon.

  • For access to the buildings contact the following people to make an appointment:

  • All athletic facilities, including outdoor locations, are closed.

PARENT SUPPORT NEW

  • The District understands that online learning is not familiar to parents.  We are currently planning on the following support for parents:

    • Building administrators will respond to email daily, Monday through Friday.

    • Teachers will access email regularly and respond within 48 hours.

    • Counselors will be reaching out to parents at least weekly with information on a variety of topics, such as social emotional learning, talking to students about COVID-19, and creating a daily routine. This will begin next week.

  • Google Classroom is used by most teachers in the district to post assignments, communicate with students, receive student work and grade it.  There is an abundance of resources out there about navigating Google Classroom. Ironically, you can Google search “Help with Google Classroom” for these resources.  Should you need additional help, please contact [email protected] or your student’s teacher.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT CHROMEBOOKS NEW

  • Students should be accessing their educational materials using their Google accounts. Even if students are using their own devices (PCs, laptops, MacBooks, phones, etc.), they should login to their Google accounts.

  • Online meetings with teachers should take place using Google Meets. Please contact Jennifer Blackstone for a Google Meet Guide.

OPERATIONS

  • After 12:00 noon on Friday, March 20th, building access will be extremely limited.  Only those staff members that have responsibilities regarding essential district operations, cleaning facilities, or assisting with food service will have access.

COMMUNICATION

FOOD SERVICE

  • Free meal food service is continuing for students up to age 18 Monday through Friday from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. through curbside food pick-up for all grade levels (K-12) will be held at the back of the middle school building each weekday.

  • Families are encouraged to pick up food bags for the entire week for each child.

  • The district will not be responsible for monitoring food allergies during this time. However, if your child has a severe allergy to peanut butter, please let us know, as we will be using Uncrustables on a daily basis.

  • If you plan to participate in the curbside pickup, please contact Jan Friedrich with the number of children at [email protected] or text 614-579-8807 in order for us to better serve your students.

Sincerely,

Liberty Union-Thurston Local School District
