COVID-19 Update-March 16, 2020

March 16, 2020


To All of those Connected to Liberty Union-Thurston Schools,


To begin, thank you to all students, parents, staff, and community members for your support and understanding during this unprecedented time. We are responding as quickly as possible to this ever-changing situation and your patience and flexibility are greatly appreciated.  During the extended school closure, our district will continue to work to maintain essential operations and provide for our students.  


The following document is intended to help answer questions. It will be updated regularly with a date and timestamp. Information will also be conveyed using the district website, app, email, and automated phone calling system.

INSTRUCTION FOR STUDENTS

  • All students will be issued educational materials to be completed during the extended break. Most materials are available online. Printed copies are available upon request.  

  • These educational materials will be graded.

  • All students have the option of checking out a school-issued Chromebook and charger beginning Tuesday, March 17th. Pick up times for Chromebooks and materials are listed below.  

    • Elementary: 9:00 A.M. to 7:00 P.M. -- enter at front and proceed to students’ classroom 

    • Middle: 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. -- at the front entrance curbside

    • High: 9:00 A.M. to 3:00 P.M -- enter at the front entrance

  • All students should login to their school provided Google accounts for completing their online work even if they are using their own computer device.

  • Teachers will be checking email periodically during the regular school week.  Students and parents can expect responses within 48 hours. 


COMMUNICATION

  • The district website and automated phone call system will be the primary sources of communication. Second-hand information should be considered rumor in regards to the school district. Check the district and school web pages for pertinent and accurate information.  

  • Be sure you are following the official school district social media accounts:

  • District office and school voicemails will continue to be monitored.  Please allow 48 hours for a response. 

  • All district and school administrators can be reached daily via their school email address. All Liberty Union staff email accounts, follow this format: [email protected] 

SCHEDULE

  • All school buildings are closed to students. All school-sponsored activities are canceled. Rescheduling of events will occur when possible. 

  • As of now, schools will reopen on Monday, April 6, 2020.  

  • At this time, Spring Break is still scheduled for April 10, 13, and 14.      

  • At this time, Liberty Union does not plan to make up any days during the summer months due to this closure.

 

OPERATIONS

  • All fiscal operations of the district will continue as normal. 

  • If any students experience technical difficulties with their Chromebook, they should contact the school Principal for assistance. 

  • The Liberty Union Administrative Team will be meeting weekly to monitor the situation. 


FOOD SERVICE

  • The Liberty Union-Thurston Schools will provide free meals for students up to age 18 beginning on Monday, March 16. 

  • Food service is available Monday through Friday from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M.

  • Curbside food pick-up for all grade levels (K-12) will be held at the back of the middle school building each weekday.  

  • Families are encouraged to pick up food bags for the entire week for each child.

  • Each bag will provide one breakfast and one lunch for the following day. Bags may include items such as PB&J uncrustables, grilled cheese sandwiches, cheese sandwiches, string cheese, graham crackers, beef sticks, baby carrots/dip, fruit cups, cookies/crackers/chips, and drinks such as fruit juice, milk or water.  Items may vary by day, but we will do our best to provide nutritious meals for our students. 

  • The district will not be responsible for monitoring food allergies during this time. However, if your child has a severe allergy to peanut butter, please let us know, as we will be using Uncrustables on a daily basis.

  • If you plan to participate in the curbside pickup, please contact Jan Friedrich with the number of children at [email protected] or text 614-579-8807 in order for us to better serve your students.
