Teamwork

Working as a team, the Liberty Union-Thurston School District, students, parents/guardians and families can ensure our students arrive to and from school in a safe manner each and every day. Our buses travel approximately 1,300 miles per day and transport 1,000 students. In addition, our team of drivers and busses service all extracurricular events for Liberty Union Schools.

Eligibility

All students must have an approved transportation section in the Liberty Union Parent Portal to be assigned a bus route. Bus routes are established and published on the portal. If you have a question about a bus route, please contact the Transportation Department at 740-862-4171 ex.4147 or [email protected]

Bus Stops

Students may be required to walk 0.5 mile to and from the bus stop or school. Also, taken into consideration is safe walking area, location of stop along with many other factors. Parents/guardians are responsible for the safety and supervision of their children to and from designated bus stops, as well as at the bus stop. The district is responsible for students once they have boarded the bus. Please plan to have children arrive 5-10 minutes prior to their route times. Your child will be assigned a place of safety at all stops.

Bus Changes

We no longer accept a daily bus change or “bus note” (see parent portal for details).

Bus Safety

For the safety of our students and bus drivers, parents are encouraged to review the Bus Riding Reminders and Rules with their children. This link is at the top of this webpage. Violation of these rules could result in the revocation of bus riding privileges.  If you have a concern, please contact the Director of Transportation, Adam Leith at 740-862-4171 ex.4147 or [email protected]

Transportation Staff

Our bus drivers are the first and last school staff to see your child each day! They are professionals, like your child’s teacher or principal Your child's driver has received extensive training and certification to operate a school bus. Bus drivers are given a written test, a driving test, a physical examination, and federal and state background checks prior to obtaining a school bus endorsement and CDL. They must also complete classroom and on-the-bus training annually. Every driver at Liberty Union-Thurston Local School District is tested and evaluated by our on-board instructor and the transportation director prior to driving for Liberty Union Schools.
