Principal's Message

Liberty Union High School Principal

LUHS Students & Families,

Welcome to the 2021-2022 school year! I am excited to join the Lion family! I’ve heard from many students and families that they are looking forward to being back in the building five days a week and I have to say that we are equally excited.  I know that the last two school years have been rough for many students but, we are going to work really hard to make this a great year!
In addition to having some traditional fun, like pep rallies, and bringing back the student section, I am pleased to share that we now offer an Engineering Pathway.  We have partnered with Project Lead the Way, a nationally recognized program, to begin building this program. Students enrolled in engineering courses can expect to learn about the career field and engage in both hands-on and rigorous course work. Another exciting opportunity for students is the expansion of Esports here at LUHS.  This sport is increasingly recognized at universities around the country, including The Ohio State University. So, if you have a student that loves gaming, this is a great opportunity for them.
This year we have added a few new faces to the high school team. Brittany Hempker will be teaching English Language Arts 10 and AP Literature and Composition. Alexandra Harrison is our 11 and 12 English Language Arts teacher and Yearbook advisor. Jim Kirk, our engineering teacher, is helping to develop the engineering pathway.  Some of you may remember Jessica Bowlby, our Art teacher. Lora Heistand is back with us at the high school working as a Student Support Specialist and Marcus Alford is back as both the Middle and High School Assistant Principal.
Lastly, I want to emphasize my value for communication. I will make it a priority to not only keep you, our students and families informed, but to partner with you to continually improve the student experience at the high school in order to help prepare students for their future. Many of you already filled out the Family Survey that went out this summer, but if you missed it please click on the link below to provide us with your feedback.
I look forward to connecting with you and our students this year!
